**Job Description**
This Research Fellow position focuses on advancing the application of Machine Learning (ML) in weather forecasting and hydrological prediction. The role involves developing ML methods for postprocessing numerical ensemble weather forecasts, specifically over India, to enhance precipitation prediction skill and generate hydrological forecasts. The successful candidate will implement and test various ML architectures, publish results, and contribute to funding generation.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Good understanding (or capacity to develop understanding) of statistics and ML.
• Good understanding (or capacity to develop understanding) of meteorological processes and numerical weather prediction.
• Specific knowledge related to monsoon precipitation (preferable).
• Experience working with large meteorological datasets.
• Good programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or R.
• Familiarity with UNIX/LINUX.
• High-level analytical capability.
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly.
• Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively.
• Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes.
• Ability to contribute to the planning and organising of research programmes/projects.
• Ability to coordinate work with others to avoid conflict or duplication.
• Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010.

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Meteorology
• Machine Learning
• Climate Science
• Physics
• Mathematics
• Statistics
• Related quantitative fields

**Experience**
Other:
• PhD, or close to completion, in a relevant quantitative field.
