**Job Description**
This Research Fellow position at the University of Southampton is focused on cutting-edge acoustics research and sustainability within the “Tone Down” project, funded by National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET). The project aims to innovate noise mitigation for high-voltage power transformers by developing sustainable and durable acoustic metamaterial-based treatments. The role involves designing, testing, and modeling novel metamaterial unit cells, assessing human perception of sound quality, and disseminating research findings. The successful candidate will join the Signal Processing, Audio and Hearing (SPAH) Group within the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR).
**Skills & Abilities**
• Substantial and authoritative practical knowledge and experience in acoustics and/or vibration, supported by detailed understanding
• Basic understanding and knowledge of numerical modelling using the Finite Element Method/Boundary Element Method
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Acoustics
• Mechanical Engineering
• Physics
• A related field
**Experience**
Other:
• Experience in acoustics and/or vibration
• Understanding of numerical modelling (Finite Element Method/Boundary Element Method)
