**Job Description**
The University of Southampton is seeking a Research Fellow to join the interdisciplinary “Tone Down” project, funded by National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET). This project focuses on revolutionising noise mitigation for high-voltage power transformers by developing acoustic metamaterials-based treatments from sustainable and durable materials. The role involves designing, testing, and numerically modelling novel metamaterial unit cells, conducting experimental field/laboratory testing of large-scale prototypes, assessing human perception of sound quality and environmental impact, and disseminating research findings.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Substantial and authoritative practical knowledge and experience in acoustics and/or vibration, supported by detailed understanding.
• Basic understanding and knowledge of numerical modelling using the Finite Element Method/Boundary Element Method.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
